THE BELLY GUIDE · PROTEIN PASTA & CARBS

Protein pasta. Carbs. Let’s untangle the bowl.

Protein pasta usually contains carbohydrates. “High protein” and “low carb” mean different things, so the useful answer is on the nutrition panel—not in the name on the front.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Does protein pasta have carbs?

Yes. Pasta made with wheat, beans, pulses or a blend of ingredients generally contains carbohydrate. Protein pasta is defined by its protein content; it is not automatically low in carbohydrate. BELLY contains 49g carbohydrate and 20g protein per 100g dry. At 75g dry, that is 36.75g carbohydrate and 15g protein before you add sauce. Use the calculator below for your chosen weight.

01 · SAME BASIS

Compare like with like.

Use the same dry weight for every product. Cooked weights vary with water absorption and can make a direct comparison misleading.

02 · WHOLE PANEL

Read beyond protein.

Look at protein, carbohydrate, fibre, energy and salt together. One number cannot tell you whether a food fits your meal.

03 · INGREDIENTS

Know what is inside.

Check the ingredient and allergen lists, especially when a pasta uses wheat, gluten, legumes or several protein sources.
